Imagined by AdrianSierraGarcia and Oceane Sailly, NOVA ZORA is a light artwork that wishes to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the reconstruction of the Stari Most, the “Old Bridge” of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. With the right support, NOVA ZORA could be inaugurated on July 22, 2014.

Who is AdrianSierraGarcia?

I am a Mexican-American architect/designer/artist. I have worked for award winning internationally renowned architecture studios in Los Angeles and in Paris where I, currently, pursue my artistic career focusing on large scale installations using light to bring people together. In summer of 2012, I realized my most important cultural project up to date, the “Social Bridge,” which uses the Simone de Beauvoir footbridge as an artistic center open to everyone. The first manifestation, “Of Two,” featured an interactive red light installation and hosted over 25 contemporary artists (dancers, poets, performance and experimental artists) every Sunday evening for 4 months.

Who is Océane Sailly?

My collaborator, Océane Sailly, is a French student at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris where she has acquired a double Bachelor in European Studies and in Cultural Mediation and where she is currently pursuing a double Master in European Studies and in Conception and Direction of Cultural Projects. She has worked for the experimental performance art collective, Dimanche Rouge, and for the Direction of Cultural Affaires of the City of Montrouge as cultural mediator, media assistant and curator's assistant during the contemporary art events Salon de Montrouge and the Young Europeann Creation Biennial JCE. Thanks, not only to her academic research, but also to her personal passions she has extensive knowledge regarding the history and culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she visited for 3 months in 2011.

What, why, why, what is NOVA ZORA?

Following the great success of the project, we imagined that the “Social Bridge” could travel to other parts of France, Europe or even the world making social and artistic links, connecting local and international artists with the public and with each other. The city of Mostar, because of its great history being an important crossroads unifying multiple cultures and religions, as well as, of its recent development, seemed like the natural destination. Stari Most, the “Old Bridge” which was destroyed during the Bosnian war in the 90s and inscribed into the world heritage of UNESCO after its reconstruction, clearly became the obvious place to host this cultural and artistic manifestation. The idea of NOVA ZORA blossomed wishing to highlight this remarkable example of a multicultural urban development by blending new technologies with architecture from the 15th - 16th century and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this wonderful monument.

Who supports NOVA ZORA?

As of today, we have the financial support from the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the moral support from UNESCO. The french Institute is working as a local interlocutor to help us attain the authorizations to occupy the Old Bridge.

The university Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris III also supports the project and we are currently waiting for financial support from them. We might also receive some financial help from Université de Rennes.

We are are in contact with ARTE, the Franco-German television network to see how they could help.

What do we need?

We need support in the following areas:

-Communication 1- We need to spread the word out and get people involved in and excited about NOVA ZORA. There are many art, culture and travel blogs, journals and/or magazines we could be published in.

-Communication 2 (Grants-Sponsorship)- We are currently looking for more financial support to realize this ambitious project. There are many public and private European and local organizations we could address to, but we don't have the man power to do so. We need someone focusing in this research 24/7 to be effective.

-Communication 3- We would need to develop a press kit or press release to approach the media, newspapers, magazines, television, etc.

-If anyone has more ideas, they are very welcomed.

This is a grassroots operation, but we do not expect anybody to work for free. The main goal is to be able to pay everyone with money. To achieve this, Communication and Grants/Sponsorship is very important because this is how we will be able to pay you and ourselves. In the worst case scenario, we are also open to other types of payment such as skills/work-time exchange. If you ever visit Paris, we could also offer accommodation, why not? :)
